EDUCATOR
McKayla Phillips is an experienced educator who has given clinics at universities, conferences, and secondary schools across the United States. McKayla has also taught at a variety of public schools across the Southeast and Midwest.
McKayla holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, which brings a comprehensive experience to their teaching. They have served as the Assistant Band Director and Front Ensemble Director at Northwest Guilford Middle and High School in Oak Ridge, North Carolina, as well as the Director of Choirs & Modern Bands. McKayla has recently served as the Visiting Lecturer of Percussion at UNC Chapel Hill, an Associate Instructor at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and is currently an Adjunct Professor of Percussion at Shaw University & Winston-Salem State University, and a Graduate Teaching Assistant at UNC Greensboro.

Conduit percussion
Chamber percussion trio Conduit Percussion has presented various clinic tours throughout North Carolina area high and middle schools.
Clinic offerings have ranged from their 2018 clinic “Making Musical Decisions: the Percussionist’s Perspective,” to their spring 2017 clinic tour focused on teaching a variety of Afro-Cuban Percussion styles.
UNIVERSITY teaching & residencies
McKayla has experience teaching at multiple University programs, where she has taught both undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of courses. She has experience instructing both concert and non-Western Percussion ensembles at the collegiate level.
McKayla is available for university clinics, masterclasses, sectional workshops, and lessons.
Public School teaching & residencies
McKayla has been a guest clinician at high and middle school music programs across the country. Some of their recent clinic offerings have included “An Introduction to Musical Thinking for Accessories” and “Beginning Hand Drumming for the High School Percussionist.”
